Trump Officially Declares National Emergency, Wants $8B for Border Wall

February 15, 2019

President Donald Trump declared a national emergency in the White House Rose Garden on Friday in his quest to secure funding for his long-promised wall at the U.S.-Mexico border. “I could do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn’t need to do this," Trump said about his decision to declare an emergency. "But I’d rather do it much faster.” He added that he sought roughly $8 billion for border barriers and that he expected Democrats to try to throw up legal roadblocks to prevent him from obtaining that money via a national emergency declaration. "Sadly, we’ll be sued and sadly it will go through a process and happily we’ll win, I think," he said.
