On Wednesday, multiple news outlets reported that Washington State Governor Jay Inslee would announce a ban on gatherings of more than 250 people to try and stop the spread of coronavirus, which has claimed more lives in Washington than in any other state. This makes matters quite complicated for major sporting events in Washington. Spokane is supposed to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA men's basketball tournament on March 19 and 21, while Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners open their season at home on March 26 against the Texas Rangers. As for the Mariners, The Athletic reports that team officials are considering holding their regular-season home games at their spring-training facility in Peoria, Arizona, until the Washington state ban is lifted.
