Trump Insists on Being Flanked by Tanks During 4th of July Celebration

July 3, 2019

On Monday, President Trump said that massive military tanks will be part of his Fourth of July celebration in Washington, D.C., despite local officials' fears about the damage they might cause area roads. To alleviate these concerns, Trump said the tanks would be "stationed outside" and wouldn't necessarily be driven down city streets. “You’ve got to be pretty careful with the tanks because the roads have a tendency not to like to carry heavy tanks,” he said. Trump will deliver a speech at the Lincoln Memorial during his "Salute to America," with some lawmakers expressing nervousness over whether it will be overly political. But White House officials tell the AP that the speech will be patriotic.
