Taylor Swift to Receive Vanguard Award at 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards

January 7, 2020

Taylor Swift will be recognized at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards for her work promoting LGBTQ acceptance. ET reports that the 30-year-old pop star will receive the organization’s Vanguard Award, handed out annually to “allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.” GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis added in a statement on Tuesday, "From boldly standing up against anti-LGBTQ elected officials to shining attention on the urgent need to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination through the Equality Act, Taylor Swift proudly uses her unique ability to influence pop culture to promote LGBTQ acceptance." Previous recipients of the Vanguard Award include Cher, Janet Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Antonio Banderas; last year, the award was given out jointly to Beyoncé and husband JAY-Z. The 31st annual awards ceremony is being held on April 16 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
