Taylor Swift has removed the much-criticized “Spelling is fun!” lyric from her Brendon Urie-assisted single “ME!” According to Rolling Stone, the lyric was scrubbed from the Apple Music version of the song on Wednesday. When the song was initially released back in April, Swift explained, “With this song, we really just wanted to have this song not really be fully taking itself seriously…We literally were like, OK, let’s say ‘Hey, kids! Spelling is fun’ because we want everyone to know that this song is not really serious because it’s not, like, a serious love song.” Critics were quick to point out the cheesiness of the lyric and point out that spelling is actually the antithesis of fun. The “spelling is cool” version is still available on Spotify, but will likely be replaced soon.
