Safety Advocates in Canada Push for Textalyzers on the Road

November 4, 2019

Safety advocates are pressing for use of so-called "textalyzer devices" in Canada to lower texting and driving incidents, according to CBC. The tech developer of such devices, Cellebrite, says that the police would be able to use devices to find out whether a phone was being used and how it was being used. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation says in a statement, that any new tools would be reviewed and address "privacy concerns, as many individuals store information in cellphones." While privacy issues concern some, "it's no more invasive than a breathalyzer, " says one safety advocate.
