Resort Owner Goes Viral for Telling Freeloading Instagram Influencers to Get a Job

April 4, 2019

Gianlucca Casaccia, co-owner of the White Banana Beach Club in the Philippines, recently got fed up with all the "Instagram influencers" flooding his inbox with requests for free lodging and other perks. Finding this "disrespectful," he posted a message to Facebook on March 26 which read, "We are receiving many messages regarding collaborations with influencers, Instagram influencers. We kindly would like to announce that White Banana is not interested to 'collaborate' with self-proclaimed 'influencers.' And we would like to suggest to try another way to eat, drink, or sleep for free. Or try to actually work." As The New York Times notes, within a week the post had racked up more than 11,000 likes, 3,000 shares and 700 comments. The newspaper notes that White Banana's plight is not unusual, as some South American and Mexican resorts have resorted to similarly heavy-handed tactics when it comes to "wannabe freeloaders."
