March 15, 2019

Forty people are dead and at least 20 others are injured after shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday. The New Zealand Herald reports that three men and one woman have been arrested over the attacks. Explosive devices were also found in their vehicles. One of the gunmen livestreamed a 17-minute video on Facebook that showed him walking into a mosque and begin shooting. In a lengthy manifesto posted to various websites, the gunman identified himself as a 28-year-old white man born in Australia and expressed anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the attack as an "unprecedented act of violence" and "one of New Zealand's darkest days." All schools in Christchurch have been put into lockdown. People have also been asked to steer clear of mosques in all of New Zealand for the time being.
