On May 6, Michelle Obama's new documentary Becoming will air on Netflix, according to Decider. The documentary, which is part of the Obamas' production deal with the streaming service, follows Michelle Obama as she promotes her 2018 memoir on a 34-city tour. The documentary is directed by cinematographer Nadia Hallgren in her directorial debut. It promises “an intimate look into the life of former First Lady Michelle Obama during a moment of profound change, not only for her personally but for the country," said a statement. Obama found the book tour fascinating. “Those months I spent traveling — meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe — drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with,” she said. The documentary was produced by the Obamas’ Higher Ground Production company, which has an exclusive deal with Netflix. The company’s first Netflix collab, American Factory won Best Documentary Feature at the 2020 Oscars.
