Kim Kardashian Planning to Take Bar Exam & Become a Lawyer Without Going to Law School

April 10, 2019

As Elle Woods might say, "What, like it's hard?" Kim Kardashian tells Vogue in their May cover story that she's studying to take the bar in 2022 so she can become a lawyer--without bothering to go to law school. "I had to think long and hard about this," Kim tells the outlet about her decision to begin a four-year apprenticeship last summer with a San Francisco law firm. (California is one of four U.S. states to allow prospective lawyers to do apprenticeships in lieu of law school.) She adds that she was inspired to pursue a legal career after convincing President Trump to grant clemency to convicted drug dealer Alice Marie Johnson. "The White House called me...and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, 'Oh, s**t. I need to know more,'" she says. "I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”
