At his daily briefing Monday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wondered if it were "smart" to have protests while the coronavirus rages on, according to the AP. “You see these mass gatherings that could potentially be infecting hundreds... after everything that we have done,” Cuomo said. “We have to take a minute and ask ourselves: ‘What are we doing here?’” Young people who are protesting could be spreading the virus to parents and grandparents, he said. NY1 reports that in a joint statement, Cuomo and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio said a curfew would be in place Monday night from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. There would also be double the number of police officers in the field. Bill de Blasio said separately that there would also be a Tuesday night curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
