FOX News Host Says He Was Joking About Not Washing Hands in 10 Years

February 12, 2019

FOX News host Pete Hegseth wants everybody to know he was joking when he said he doesn't believe in washing his hands. "My 2019 resolution is to say things on-air that I say off-air," he told his FOX and Friends co-hosts over the weekend. "I don't think I've washed my hands for 10 years." He continued, "I inoculate myself. Germs are not a real thing. I can't see them; therefore, they're not real." After his comments went viral, Hegseth told USA Today that he was merely poking fun at germaphobes. "My half-hearted commentary to the point is, we live in a society where people walk around with bottles of Purell in their pockets, and they sanitize 19,000 times a day as if that’s going to save their life," he explained. "I take care of myself and all that, but I don’t obsess over everything all the time." He added that seeing the incident blow up on Twitter is "ridiculous" and he can't believe how seriously people take things.
