Before she drowned in California's Lake Piru, actress Naya Rivera used all of her strength to save her four-year-old son Josey, the Ventura Country Sheriff's Department told reporters Monday afternoon. The actress had gone missing on the lake last Thursday, setting off a furious search for her body, which was found early Monday. Sherriff's spokesman William Ayub said, "We believe it was mid-afternoon when she went swimming, the idea being, perhaps, that the boat began drifting… and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat but not enough to save herself,” Page Six reports. Ayub revealed that the toddler had "described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind. He looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water.” Authorities say they are confident that the body they found is that of the former Glee actress, and that she drowned in an area of the lake that is between 35-60 feet deep. “We believe she was concealed within the shrubbery of some of the floorbed of the lake” before the body rose to the surface, Ayub said. There was no indication of suicide or foul play. “It has been an extremely difficult time for her family throughout this ordeal,” Ayub said, “we share in their grief.”
