Ellen Opens Up About Being Molested as a Teen

May 29, 2019

Years ago, Ellen DeGeneres revealed that she was molested by her stepfather when she was a teenager, opening up about it on the new season of David Letterman's Netflix series, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction". It started not long after Ellen's mother married the guy, when she had to have one of her breasts removed due to cancer. One day when Ellen's mother was out of town, her stepfather came to her and said he thought he felt a lump in her mom's other breast. He told Ellen he hadn't said anything to her mom because he didn't want to upset her and claimed that he needed to feel Ellen's breasts for a comparison. He tried to do this a few more times. Once he tried to break her door down to get to her, and she had to kick out her window to get away. She says, quote, "I didn't want to tell my mother, 'cause I was protecting her and I knew that that would ruin her happiness, [But> I should never have protected her. I should have protected myself." She adds, quote, "I didn't tell her for a few years, and then I told her. And then she didn't believe me. And then she stayed with him for 18 more years. And finally left him because he'd changed the story so many times." The new season of "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" hits Netflix on Friday.
