Chicago Mayor Demands $130,000 From Jussie Smollett for Investigation

March 29, 2019

After his charges were dropped earlier this week, the city of Chicago is now ordering Jussie Smollett to pay $130,000 for their investigation into his falsely reported hate crime claims. Though the Empire actor forfeited his $10,000 bail, the City claims that was not enough to cover the overtime work his lie created for the Chicago Police Department, the Daily Beast reports. "[G>iven that he doesn’t feel any sense of contrition and remorse, my recommendation is when he writes the check, in the memo section he can put the word, I’m ‘accountable’ for the hoax,” Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel said on Thursday.
