Bernie Sanders Announces He's Running for President Again in 2020

February 19, 2019

Bernie Sanders officially announced on Tuesday that he's once again running for president in 2020. CNN notes that it will be the 77-year-old's second consecutive bid for the Democratic nomination after losing to Hillary Clinton in 2016. "I am asking you to join me today as part of an unprecedented and historic grassroots campaign that will begin with at least a million people from across the country," Sanders, an independent Senator from Vermont, wrote in an email to supporters. He also said Tuesday in an interview with Vermont Public Radio about his ability to represent the current Democratic Party, "We have got to look at candidates, you know, not by the color of their skin, not by their sexual orientation or their gender and not by their age...We have got to try to move us toward a nondiscriminatory society which looks at people based on their abilities, based on what they stand for."
