Arrest Warrant Issued for R. Kelly Over No-Show in Minnesota (Because He's in Jail in Chicago)

September 13, 2019

There's warrant out for R. Kelly in Minnesota after he no-showed for his court date there on Thursday. He's got a pretty good excuse for why he couldn't make it, though; he's behind bars in Chicago. Entertainment Tonight reports that prosecutor Judith Cole told the Judge Jay Quam in Minnesota's Hennepin County district court that federal authorities were unwilling to allow Kelly to travel until his cases in Illinois were resolved. The singer has been accused of offering an underage girl $200 to take off her clothes and dance for him in a Minneapolis hotel room in 2001. In Chicago, Kelly faces multiple state and federal felonies related to illegal sexual activity with minors. Quam ordered a bench warrant for Kelly's arrest in Minnesota as a formality. Kelly's attorneys called the Minnesota charges "absurd" when they were filed early last month.
