At 2:20 a.m. on Friday, Herbert DeLaigle passed away at the age of 94. Just 12 hours later, his 88-year-old wife, Marilyn, died as well, giving bittersweet meaning to the phrase, ''Til death do us part." As WRDW notes, the two were married for 71 years; they met at a cafe in Georgia when he was 22 and she was 16. "Frances worked at a little cafe we had in Waynesboro named White Way Cafe," Herbert said in a 2018 interview. "I kept seeing her going in and out, in and out, and I had my eyes set on her. And then I finally got up the nerve to ask her if she would go out with me sometime." A year later, she accepted his marriage proposal. The couple is survived by their six children, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held in their honor on Monday.
