Stormy Daniels' Lawyer, Michael Avenatti, Arrested for Fraud, Accused of Trying to Extort Nike

March 25, 2019

Think back to the worst day of your life, and take solace in the fact that it likely pales in comparison to the very bad day Stormy Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, had on Monday. According to The New York Times, federal prosecutors filed documents in New York alleging that Avenatti, one of President Trump's fiercest critics, threatened to release evidence that Nike illicitly funneled money to basketball recruits unless the shoe and apparel company paid $22.5 million to Avenatti and an AAU coach he represents. As if that weren't enough, Avenatti was also arrested Monday in a separate case in California, where he's charged with bank and wire fraud for allegedly embezzling a client's money to pay off debts and using fake tax returns to obtain loans from a bank.
