The Polar Vortex May Have Killed Off the Majority of Stink Bugs

February 19, 2019

When we finally begin to thaw out from winter and all the bugs come out of hiding, stink bags may not be the hind you'll encounter.  A new study estimates that the Polar Vortex killed 95% of stink bugs that hadn't found shelter to stay warm this winter. A press release from the National Pest Management Association cites a research experiment from Virginia Tech. The researchers say along with the stink bugs being affected, the winter cold will likely kill off invasive species like the emerald ash borer and southern pine beetle.
