Papa John's Replaces Papa John With Shaquille O'Neal

March 22, 2019

On Friday, Papa John's announced that former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal would join its board, invest in several restaurants in the Atlanta area--where he lives--and become the pizza chain's brand ambassador, effectively replacing its disgraced founder "Papa" John Schnatter, who resigned in late 2017 after criticizing the NFL and dropping an n-bomb on a conference call. Probably not coincidentally, O'Neal will become Papa John's first African-American board member. “With Shaq on the board, it’s a big final step for turning the page for the company," Papa John's CEO Steve Ritchie told Reuters.
