At Least 3 Killed on Dutch Tram in Likely Terrorist Attack

March 18, 2019

Three people were shot and killed and nine more wounded on a tram Monday in Utrecht, Netherlands, in what the mayor said appeared to be a terrorist attack. A manhunt is underway for the gunman, believed to be a 37-year-old Turkish national named Gokmen Tanis. “We assume a terror motive," said Mayor Jan van Zanen. "Likely there is one attacker, but there could be more." As the AP notes, the attack comes less than a week after 50 people were killed at a pair of mosques in New Zealand by a white supremacist, although there was no immediate link between the two incidents.
