Hallmark Channel Dumps Lori Loughlin After College Bribery Arrest

March 14, 2019

The Hallmark Channel announced Thursday that it was severing ties with its biggest star, Lori Loughlin, after the actress was arrested in a massive college-admissions bribery scandal. Loughlin stars in the cable network's series When Calls the Heart and its Garage Sale Mystery TV movies, and has been a mainstay in its robust slate of original Christmas films. Loughlin, who was taken into custody on Wednesday and freed on a $1 million bond, and her husband, the fashion designer Massimo Gianulli, are accused of paying $500,000 to the University of Southern California in order to have their two daughters designated as crew-team recruits, even though neither of them rowed. Having a student designated as an athletic recruit typically makes it easier to be admitted through the now-infamous "side door."
