A Florida sixth grader was arrested and charged with several misdemeanors after he recite to say the Pledge of Allegiance at school. According to The Washington Post, the unnamed 12-year-old at Lakeland's Lawton Chiles Middle Academy told a substitute teacher that he thought the flag and National Anthem are "racist" against black people. An argument that involved the dean and a school resource officer ensued. “Suspend me! I don’t care. This school is racist,” the black student allegedly told the dean. The 12-year-old was ultimately charged with disruption of a school facility and resisting an officer without violence. “This arrest was based on the student’s choice to disrupt the classroom, make threats and resisting the officer’s efforts to leave the classroom,” said a release from The Lakeland Police Department.
