Verizon Worker Suspended for Rescuing Cat Stuck Atop Telephone Pole

March 25, 2019

Last week in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a cat got stuck atop a telephone pole, where it remained for more than 12 hours. To the rescue came Verizon employee Maurice German, who used his crane truck to usher the feline, named Princess Momma, to safety. For his heroic act, German got...suspended for three weeks. "While this employee’s goal was admirable, he potentially put his life and those around him in jeopardy,” Verizon spokesman Rich Young said. “While our actions may not be popular, it’s in the best interest of our employees and the communities we serve.” Someone set up a GoFundMe page after learning about German's punishment; as of Monday, it had raised over $3,000.
