In a surprisingly thrilling opener, all-time Jeopardy! champ Ken Jennings squeaked past James Holzhauer and thoroughly crushed Brad Rutter to claim the first win of the Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time tournament on Tuesday. The tournament will continue until one of the contestants, who are three winningest in the show's long history, wins three games. In this tournament, a game consists of two consecutive regular Jeopardy! games in one hour-long episode. On Tuesday, Jennings won with a combined total of $63,400, barely topping Holzhauer's $63,200. Rutter finished with only $10,400 after betting it all on the Final Jeopardy! question, which he got wrong. Jennings--who holds the streak for longest consecutive games won at 74 and is the show's top money winner--could wrap up the title by Thursday if he wins the next two nights. The GOAT tournament winner will take home $1 million, while the two runners-up receive $250,000. Round two airs Wednesday.
