Former Smallville actress Allison Mack pleaded guilty Monday to charges she was involved in a scheme to turn women into sex slaves for the purported self-help group NXIVM. “I believed [spiritual leader> Keith Raniere’s intentions were to help people, and I was wrong,” Mack told a Brooklyn judge, according to The New York Times. Federal prosecutors believe Mack began recruiting other women into a secret sect within the NXIVM organization, who were branded with Raniere’s initials and forced to have sex with him. Mack’s arrest was part of a larger federal case against high-ranking members, including Raniere and four others. She will be sentenced on September 11 on two racketeering counts that each carry maximum terms of 20 years in prison.
