April 1, 2019

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is set to become the longest running primetime live-action series in television history. According to Vulture, NBC announced the TV show's renewal for a 21st season on Friday. With its upcoming season, SVU will beat creator Dick Wolf's 20-season run with his original Law & Order franchise. The series Gunsmoke also ran for 20 seasons, from 1955 to 1975. I"I'm deeply proud to be a part of this groundbreaking show, and humbled to make television history today," SVU star Mariska Hargitay says in a statement. "The longevity and continued success of SVU is a testament not only to the show's powerful storytelling and ability to connect with viewers, but to its necessity." She adds, "We have told important stories for 20 years, and we will continue to tell them."
