Disney World Re-Opens as Florida Breaks U.S. Coronavirus Record

July 13, 2020

Disney World re-opened its Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom theme park doors on July 11, even as coronavirus cases soared in Florida over the weekend, according to Consequence of Sound. Disney has social distancing measures in place and requires all guests wear face masks. There are no parades, character meet and greets or fireworks; these are all measures to keep crowd size down. However, photo evidence and reporting indicates that people are not necessarily social distancing. On Sunday morning, health officials in Florida announced that on July 11, the state had experienced the highest number of new cases that any state has reported since the pandemic began. Disney still plans to have Epcot and Hollywood Studios reopen on July 15th.
