CORONAVIRUS: Here's the List of Exempt Essential Jobs

Thursday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that businesses must decrease their in-office workforce by 75%, tightening a 50% restriction he announced Wednesday. But which jobs are exempt from that ruling? The Rochester Chamber of Commerce released the following list:

  • Health care workers, including research and laboratory services
  • Utilities, telecommunication, airports and transportation workers
  • Manufacturing, including food processing and pharmaceuticals
  • Workers in grocery stores and pharmacies
  • Trash collection, mail and shipping services 
  • News media
  • Banks and financial institutions; those who provide necessities to the economically disadvantaged
  • Construction 
  • Vendors of services that maintain the safety and sanitation of homes or other essential businesses
  • Vendors that provide essential services or products, including logistics and tech support, childcare and services needed to support government agencies
